All of fans, who know Russian and who read previous issue of ANTICHRIST should remember this band from Sweden ‘coz it´s interview back then. I must to say that I waiting for this album with huge interest! And now I holding this in my hands at last. Well, firstly I´d like to admit the fact that band doesn´t stand on a place, but moves forward. I mean this album isn´t similar to previous one! The music is in the same vein but with no any re-playing of old compositions, like some bands did... That´s really great fact I think. Ok, let´s continue to penetrate into ANACHRONAEON... All in all here´s 7 songs on almost 40 minutes of sounding. It´s also hard for me to call right style of this album, ‘coz here are dark metal, progressive metal means, even just metal means... So let´s call it – dark progressive metal. Music is based on both fast and slow rhythms, with two types vocals, here are growl and clear vocals. I told also about some changes in the music, I meant this album is more agressive from the musical side, here´s more dark parts also. Dense rhythm section, necessary tempo changes (thanx which music on album doesn´t sound monotonously), great atmosphere, beautiful solos, and as a whole really catching stuff over here. Every song filled with various ideas, also whole stuff don´t sound like a modern shit, here´s really metal means. Also music is in total union with conception! Yeah, album have a conception, all songs are one history (what about you should find out without my help, it´ll be more interesting J ). Well, we can speak more and more... I dare to recommended this album to all metalheads into dark yet bit progressive and untrendy metal exactly!

Here we are with a concept album dealing with aliens. While Anachronaeon´s newest album was released last year, this one, originally self-released in 2005 was also re-released by Stygian Crypt beside “As the Last Human Spot in me Dies”. Anachronaeon play progressive death metal with slightly doomy overtones, and hail from Västerås, Sweden. Strangely, they pull off some fairly complex music as just two entities. It seems that at some point, probably this album, there were two other members. There are keyboards present on this release though it doesn´t say that Patrick Carlsson, the main songwriter, is a keyboard player. So I can only assume the work for this part was done by now ex-member Marcus Wadstein.
The dialog in the album continuously flows between a man simply named Jack and the Storyteller, except for a brief appearance from the Swedish president! I won´t ruin the surprises and tell you why, but its an interesting ending to an overly impressive album. There is also a song called Letter to Nancy that doesn´t involve the dialog of anyone, but rather the written words that Jack has found from a scientist to his beloved. The story of Jack more or less follows his short adventure after being kidnapped by unknown people/entities in a black van. It´s a really nightmarish scenario that finds its last words being spoken of a not-so-happy ending.
There are only two disappointing aspects to The New Dawn. Firstly, though the dialog continuously goes back and forth between storyteller, and the thoughts of Jack, there is no difference in the voice that the vocalist uses which unfortunately makes it rather confusing to follow at certain points. The other part has to do with the music and the lyrics dually. Granted that obviously English isn´t going to be the first language for a Swede, there are clearly sung moments that use words that just don´t work in a heartfelt sung moment. See: “Browsing the web” and other various moments throughout. Then there´s the bad placement of musical moments, like when Jack discovers that the United States have discovered Alien DNA. Once this is said, its immediately followed by an incredibly happy solo-bridge on guitar. It should have been a shocking moment, so I´m not sure why the band decided to use this particular sound.
There honestly wouldn´t be any problems with this record at all if the band had avoided making it a concept album. Once you go down that path, you have to make the music follow the storyline, and if you fail to do so, it throws the whole mood off and sends the story into an uninteresting direction. If you just let the music speak for itself, The New Dawn is one of the better Swedish releases of this year, and Stygian Crypt are ace for picking it up. Try not to take the story too seriously and you should really find yourself enjoying this one.

Вслед за переизданием материала “As the Last Human Spot in Me Dies” на диске, на всё том же российском лейбле Stygian Crypt вышел новый альбом этого шведского дуэта.

I am a big fan of neither progressive metal nor technical death metal. I usually prefer a more direct sound that speaks straight to my heart and doens´t need me to get so mental in order to understand it. Anachronaeon however is an exception to the rule I have set for myself. From the first time I listened to this album, I have noticed that the band´s sound has something appealing, although it was too technical and progressive at the same time. After a few more listenings, I´ve reached to the conclusion that this band can be added to the ones that have earned my respect and I would recommend them to my friends (Yep, all of you reading this review are also included). The band has a good sense of melody and they also use the progressive and technical parts of their music in a wise and moderate way. All of the above elements are used in a way to serve and create the right atmosphere for the concept story that unfolds on this album. A story that could easily be the script for the next X-Files movie. It might also be my impression, bhut the way the story is structured and narrated, brought to my mind KING DIAMOND. Finally I want to close this review by doing my favourite thing... telling you the influences I discoevred in the band´s sound. Well it is obvious that their sound has a strong dose of DEATH in it along with the dark romance of EVERGREY and the desperate anger of old NEVERMORE and COMMUNIC. All in all, this is an album that deserves your attention!

Anachronaeon - The New Dawn / SCP 039
Anachronaeon are a two-man project from Sweden who describe themselves as a melodic Death Metal band. Hailing from Sweden, you pretty know what to expect since it´s a country with great traditions in this style.
They were formed in 2003 and "The New Dawn" is their debut album, although they have released another after this one. It was originaly released in 2005, but it was re-released by Stygian Crypt Productions.
Their album has been spinning in my stereo for a few times, and these boys are actually quite good. The music itself is decently done, maybe not offering anything new, but still it´s quite enjoyable and quite catchy.
They make this combo between clean and harsh vocals, which usually is something I really enjoy. They don´t come out as impressive, but it´s definitely not bad either. I personally don´t like much the clean vocals here, when they make contrast with the harsh ones, which are quite good. But in the song "Letter for Nancy", which is most of it clean vocals, they are actually quite good.
Well I don´t know how their new album is like, but this one is not bad at all, specially for a debut.
I´d recommend the song "Letter for Nancy" as probably the best song where they show their softer and harder side. The lyrics look like something coming from a B-category sci-fi movie, but the music helps creating a sad atmosphere, which is probably what they were aiming at. Definitely worth checking out!

Here we have the new album (in fact is a 2005 conceptual album) of this excellent band whose main brain is Patrik Carlsson and that combine huge heavy guitar riffs with melancholic melodies that give a dark feeling to the music. Here the main thing is that combination of brutality and arrangements that constitutes Anachronaeon´s trademark sound. The vocals also fit well the music, being brutal in many parts and adding melodies on the more climatic sections. There are keyboards that also add to the atmosphere, but the mian work here is done by the guitars that deliver the esencial melodies and riffs that are all over the album thanks to PAtrik´s great musicianship. The album, despite having four years since its original recording, has a fresh sound and good mix and atmosphere, with my favorite tune being the melancholic “The plot thickens”. This is pure brutal and progressive music.
